Energy efficiency and environmentally- friendly building practices have been the focus of new construction and renovations for many years, but when it comes to your home you want to make sure you understand what this means and how it can help protect your investment… and save you money.
Some of the most popular upgrades people make to their homes affect more of the aesthetic appeal, rather than what’s behind the walls. Although an upgraded kitchen, bathroom or flooring adds value to the home, just as much consideration, if not more, should be spent on how to make sure your home is as energy efficient as possible.
“Increasing the energy efficiency of a home can be a great value, either while you live there or if there comes a time when you want to sell your home,” says Paul Pettipas, chief executive officer at the Nova Scotia Home Builders’ Association (NSHBA). “We try to show consumers the options available to them and programs such as R-2000 and EnerGuide for New Houses are excel- lent examples for those who choose to increase their home’s energy efficiency levels.”
Another way the NSHBA is able to show consumers the benefits of energy efficiency housing is through its annual R-2000 Showcase of Homes. This year marks the 24th anniversary for the event and features a variety of advanced homes with the latest in R-2000 technology. The R-2000 Showcase of Homes will be open for four weekends, every Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm from May 12 – June 2.
With houses located throughout HRM, Enfield, Belnan and Antigonish, there will be a variety of homes open for viewing, all of different sizes and styles.
The R-2000 Showcase of Homes is the great opportunity to learn more about advanced building practices, talk to the professionals and have all your new home questions answered.
